A friend of mine told me of a fight he had with his wife many months ago. They had torn into each others tenderest parts. They didn't hold back their rage...
Just three miles from the rest stop
And she slams on the breaks
She said I tried to be but I'm not
And could you please collect your things
I don't wanna be cold
I don't wanna be cruel
But I gotta find more
Than what's happening with you
If you'd - open up the door
Months after the fight, they had grown tired of each other, tired of trying, tired. They wanted something to make the pain go away. One wanted peace. One wanted out.
She said - while you were sleeping
I was listening to the radio
And wondering what you're dreaming when
It came to mind that I didn't care
So I thought - hell if it's over
I had better end it quick
Or I could lose my nerve
Are you listening - can you hear me
Have you forgotten
My buddy didn't know quite what to do. You see, the better part of advice he got was from casual bar conversations with other women and from TV shows. My friend didn't have a clue. But his wife, she had ideas. You see, she couldn't communicate the tension she felt. So she had been sleeping around to comfort herself, to console herself, to die inside to the man she once loved. The man who abused her by not being there.
Just three miles from the rest stop
And my mouth's too dry to rage
The light was shining from the radio
I could barely see her face
But she knew all the words that I never had said
She knew the crumpled-up promise of this
Broken down man - and as I opened up the door
They both had somehow gotten off track. One sought to keep up with the Jones' and the other gave her soul to follow someone who didn't truly know how to love. But they tried. And they wondered, were they ever on track in the first place?
This is episode #1 of The David George Show, a podcast (maybe a vblog later) covering church & culture topics; things I can't stop thinking about. Today we dive into...
My guest is Brandon Davidson, pastor of Mosaic Tyler, a new church plant. Also joining us is Ben Wheeler, Mission Year missionary, who with his wife has committed to a year long vow of poverty in an effort to identify with those he will serve in Georgia.
Enjoy the show!

Recently, Jenny & I had a discussion on the Power of Politics and its ability to drive the most committed Christians to slander, lie, get angry, yell, be divisive, back-bite, treat their neighbor poorly, hate, live in fear, spread fear, take away peace, think evil, be unkind, etc...
You get the picture.
For many Christians, politics is a lure to acting unChrist-like. I've been affected by it's evil. You may have been too.
One cause is media commentary disguised as "speaking the truth boldly" or "prophetically". From talk shows & radio personalities to newspaper columns & books, much of the media arouses unchrist-like sentiments.
Political media is meant to stir up wrathful passions instead of stirring up God's love & mercy. But the Christian is meant to show Christ not the label of some passing political party. Here's a perfect quote I ran across today that explains why the media must act out like this.
"One of the most civil voices in talk radio, Michael Medved, explains the economic pressure upon the industry. He told NewMajority: “In this [economic] environment, you have something of a push to be outrageous, to be on the fringe, because what you’re desperately competing for is… P-1 listeners [those who tune in most frequently]. The percentage of people on the fringe who are P-1s is quite high,” he explained. As a result, talk radio hosts are feeling more pressure than usual to yell harder, scream louder, and insult further. Talk shows “are fighting for an ever- smaller pie, [which means that] you’ve got to be even louder about it because you’re trying to get the attention of an ever-smaller niche,” said Medved."
Do you really think that you can feed yourself a daily diet of Olbermann or O'Reilly or Hannity or Colmes and not end up being as agitated or enraged as they are? Some get more worked up about policy & elections than working out their faith or outreach.
What Christians must decide is whether their task is to lead people to the cross of Christ or to bow before a donkey or an elephant. When politics causes you to act counter-Christ, maybe its time to leave it behind.
I am not advocating being uninformed or being lax on our civic responsibility but maybe a break from media would help you refocus on people over politics and on Christ instead of this worldly empire that will one day burn.
Remember, politics will "dissolve like snow".
